DENTAL CROWNS AND BRIDGES
Crowns and bridges can help restore strength and functionality to your teeth
What are crowns and bridges?
Crowns and bridges are fixed prosthetic devices that are cemented onto teeth or implants to help restore strength and functionality to missing or damaged teeth.
Crowns
A dental crown is placed over a tooth to protect it from further damage or to improve its appearance. At our office, we offer porcelain crowns, which can be made to match the color of your natural teeth. A crown may be needed for many reasons:
Replace a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth left to support a new filling
Protect a weak or brittle tooth
Restore a fractured or cracked tooth
Attach a bridge
Restore a dental implant
Bridges
A dental bridge may be used to replace one or more missing teeth. Bridges are cemented to your natural teeth or implants surrounding the empty space where teeth are missing. These teeth, called abutments, act as anchors for the dental bridge with a replacement tooth in between. At our office, we offer porcelain bridges, so they match the natural color of your teeth.
What to expect
Before your crown or bridge is made, the affected tooth or teeth must be reduced in size, so the crown or bridge will fit properly. After the tooth or teeth are reduced, they will be scanned with an intra-oral scanner and sent to a dental lab, where they will create your crown or bridge. During this time, a temporary crown or bridge will be placed to the appropriate tooth or teeth. When the permanent crown or bridge is ready, the temporary placement will be removed, and the new crown or bridge will be cemented over your tooth or teeth.
WHITENING
In-office whitening is the quickest way to achieve a brighter smile!
Nobody wants a discolored smile; however, daily activities often pay a big role in dental stains. There are many factors that can contribute to stained enamel, including medications, tobacco use, injury to the teeth, and drinking darkly colored beverages. These stains can be classified as extrinsic or intrinsic. Extrinsic stains are on the surface of the teeth, while intrinsic stains live within the enamel and dentin. While some whitening toothpastes may be able to remove extrinsic stains, intrinsic stains can only be removed with professional teeth whitening.
In-office Whitening
In-office whitening is the quickest way to achieve a brighter smile, in just one treatment! In-office whitening treatments contain higher concentrations of whitening agents, so results are produced much more quickly than over-the-counter options. During your treatment, your gums are protected, and a whitening product is applied to the teeth until they reach the desired shade. This process usually takes between 30-60 minutes to complete, after which you will walk out with a whiter smile!
At-Home Whitening
If you would rather obtain a whiter smile more gradually, at-home whitening can be a good option. This treatment involves a custom tray. A whitening gel will be placed into the tray, and you should wear it for about 30 minutes a day. This whitening gel allows you to whiten your smile safely and on your own time, and is a great alternative to in-office whitening treatments.
JUVEDERM
What is Juvederm?
JUVÉDERM® is a dermal filler formulated with hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance that delivers nutrients to the skin, helping the skin retain moisture and softness and adding volume. It is a great solution to smooth moderate to severe parentheses lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth, as well as add volume to the lips.
The treatment
A very fine needle will be used to precisely inject the Juvederm, restoring lost volume and smoothing lines. JUVÉDERM® contains pain-reducing lidocaine to help manage pain or discomfort during the injection. Topical numbing cream or ice can help further minimize discomfort. At Southern Roots Dental, we offer N2O (“laughing gas”) and local anesthetic injections within the mouth to completely numb the area so that you won’t feel any discomfort during the procedure.
Results
After your JUVÉDERM® treatment, you may experience some swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection sites, though these side effects are usually mild. There is no downtime required after treatment, so you can return to your everyday activities as quickly as possible. Results can last 6 months to a year.
BOTOX
What is botox?
BOTOX® is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe forehead lines, crow’s feet lines, and frown lines between the eyebrows in adults. BOTOX® contains mostly sterile saline with tiny amounts of a highly purified botulinum toxin protein refined from the bacterium, Clostridium botulinum. BOTOX® is one of the most extensively studied medical aesthetic treatments and is approved for cosmetic use in 78 countries.
The treatment
BOTOX® targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines and crow’s feet—the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. Your doctor will inject these muscles with BOTOX® to temporarily reduce muscle activity. At Southern Roots Dental, we offer N2O (“laughing gas”) to help make the experience more comfortable. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of your crow’s feet lines and frown lines between your brows. It can take up to two weeks to see the full results from the treatment.
Results
Following BOTOX® injections, patients may experience mild swelling, redness, and bruising, but since the medication is mostly saline, the bumps and redness resolve very quickly. There is no downtime needed following Botox injections, so you can return to your everyday routine right away. Results can last from 3-6 months.

GLO WHITENING TREATMENT
What is Glo?
GLO is the only teeth whitening system that uses a patented warming heat and light universal mouthpiece to accelerate your results. This treatment can be done in-office, at home, or on-the-go, so you can achieve a whiter smile, easier!
GLO (Guided Light Optic) Technology has revolutionized the whitening process. This device, when used with the Whitening Gels and Whitening Mouthpiece, glows with a blue light as it gently warms. The heat accelerates the whitening gel inside of the mouthpiece, resulting in faster and longer-lasting whitening without the sensitivity. GLO is clinically proven to whiten teeth by five shades in as little as five days.
What to expect in-office
The GLO whitening treatment can be done in-office, for dramatic results and little to no sensitivity. After application of the GLO Professional Whitening Gel, the special GLO mouthpiece will be inserted into your mouth, and warming heat plus light is used to activate the gel and prevents oxygens from escaping the mouth. This allows for beautiful, long-lasting results. Treatment takes about 45 minutes to complete.
How to use the take-home Glo Whitening treatment
It is easy to use the GLO whitening system at home, too! Simply prep the lips and teeth by applying lip care and brush whitening gel onto the top and bottom teeth. Then, activate the controller and put the mouthpiece in your mouth. Then, simply wait eight minutes while your teeth are whitened. It is recommended that patients speak with their provider regarding the length of use for optimal results.
